Central County Fire & Rescue Firefighters, Community Leaders and Meal Recipients Come Together to Celebrate Donation of More than 10,000 Meals Over Past Five Years
Every morning hundreds of St. Charles area senior citizens patiently wait for a knock on the door. Many times an off-duty CCFR (Central County Fire & Rescue Firefighters) firefighter, or community volunteer, is at the door, delivering a smile, and for many, the only hot, healthy meal they will receive for the day.
For more than five years, CCFR’s Community Outreach volunteers have been committed to the ongoing success of the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging (MEAA) Home Delivered Meals Program, raising more than $82,000 for meals. St. Charles County is the only one in the MEAA service area that still offers daily hot meals.
With the help of St. Peters local officials, and the support of the community an annual trivia night has helped bring in thousands of dollars every year to help the program. This year set a record, raising $20,556 to help provide meals for those in need. A check recognizing the donation was presented at the annual holiday celebration at the St. Peters Senior Center on Dec. 17, 2015.
