The American Red Cross launches “Pet First Aid” app for iPhone and Android.


The Red Cross’ Pet First Aid app gives smart phone users instant access to expert information to learn how to maintain their pet’s health, and what to do during emergencies.

It has simple step-by-step instructions to guide pet owners through emergencies, like CPR, frostbite, burns, allergic reactions, and what to do if a pet is in a bad car accident or other medical situation.

The app is 99-cents and proceeds benefit Red Cross efforts. A profile can be created for your pet with tag identification number, photos, a list of medications, and instructions. This kind of information is ideal for a pet sitter or in case of an emergency.

Other features in the app allow pet owners to:
• Use the list of early warning signs to learn when to call their veterinarian.
• Find emergency pet care facilities or alternate veterinarians with the “animal hospital locator.”
• Find information about to include pets in their emergency action plans.
• Locate pet-friendly hotels.
• Learn from videos, interactive quizzes and simple step-by-step advice for common first aid emergencies.
