Served Since 1992
Why did you become a firefighter?
I became a firefighter because I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life in a time of need. I felt I wanted a career where every day was somewhat of a surprise.
How long have you been with the District?
I have been with the district for nearly 22 years.
What is your favorite part of the job?
Meeting people from all walks of life and finding out it is a small world.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to travel and do a lot of camping.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I used to drive a Zamboni at Brentwood Ice Rink and did several ice makes for the St. Louis blues when that was their practice rink.
Describe a typical day at the firehouse.
On a normal day we start with checking the truck and then after our captain has his morning meeting we start our duties of the day ranging from training, inspections, equipment testing and other duties as assigned.
What are two things about your job that people would surprise non-firefighters?
Our work schedule is 48 hours on duty and 96 off duty. Because you spend a lot of time together, the fire service becomes your second family and you get to know a lot about each other.
