As the air becomes crisp and the leaves crinkle under our feet many of us face the task of cleaning our yards of the fall foliage that dots the ground. It is critically important to remember that not only is it dangerous, but it is illegal to burn yard waste.
Dry leaves, dry air and other yard waste combined with an open flame are a recipe for disaster. These items are highly combustible, and fires involving them spread rapidly, and can quickly grow out of control. Something as simple as a change in wind direction can cause a small pile of burning leaves to turn in to a large scale fire.
To properly dispose of leaves place them in brown paper yard waste bags for pick up by the local trash company, or use a lawn mower with a good mulching blade.
