As the sky turns grey, and the rain starts to fall National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Spotters are on the lookout for severe weather. Anyone can become an official spotter by attending the NWS Severe Storm Spotter Training on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the St. Peters Justice Center 1020 Grand Teton Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376.

During the free training participants will learn the key signs of severe weather, and how to report these to the appropriate officials.  They will also have the chance to review video footage of recent tornados, flash floods, hailstorms and other severe weather events.

The National Weather Service relies on those who have gone through these trainings to supplement doppler radar information on severe storms and tornadoes.

“During severe weather situations we count on our community to be there to help,” explains Central County Fire & Rescue Chief Russ Mason. “By becoming a trained Storm Spotter residents can help their entire community in the event of severe weather.”
