Matthew Aubuchon
Firefighter B-Shift
Served Since 2010
1. Why did you become a firefighter?
I became a firefighter for two reasons. One of them being I wanted to help people, it is one of the greatest feelings to experience in the world. The other reason is I didn’t want to have a normal 9-5 Monday through Friday career requiring me to sit in an office. I like to experience something new everyday.
2. How long have you been with the District?
I joined the District as a firefighter in 2010, though I have been with the district for a lot longer. My Dad has been working here for about 25 years, so I have been with the District my whole life. I have known a lot of the guys for a long time and I have been coming to CCFR events since I was about 4-5 years old.
3. What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job would have to be working on a big fire or using the hydraulic tools while assisting on a motor vehicle accident.
5. What would people be surprised to know about you?
Even though I have a really good job, I still live at home with my parents.
6. Describe a typical day at the firehouse.
I come in around 6:30 a.m., put my gear on the truck and then do a truck check. After that I log into the computer to check emails and see what the day has planned for us such as training activities or public fire education. After that we usually do maintenance and cleaning. Then I usually try to get a workout in before lunch. All of this is in between running calls.
7. What are two thing about you job that people would surprise non-firefighters?
We do a lot of community outreach programs, which involve helping out the elderly, teaching young children, etc. and you have to be a good cook or else you will have a lot of jokes coming your way.
