Three CCFR firefighter/rescue techs were deployed to Joplin to assist with search and rescue efforts the day after the tornado struck.
The firefighters are all members of the St. Charles County Rescue Strike Team #1. The team is one of five heavy rescue strike teams in the area that provide Urban Search & Rescue during disasters. The team is made up of members from CCFR, the Cottleville Fire Protection District, O’Fallon Fire Protection District, St. Charles City Fire Department, and Wentzville Fire Protection District. Team members are trained to assist in confined space rescues, trench and structural collapse incidents, and rope rescues.
While in Joplin the team assisted in searching for tornado victims trapped in the rubble.
In addition to the strike team, two local companies each donated two pallets of emergency supplies, which were delivered by off-duty CCFR firefighters.
